Search and Rescue Grounds Crew Locate Missing Plane

N.C. Highway Patrol, N.C. State Parks Securing the Scene

RDU Airport, N.C. – At 10:02 this morning, search and rescue crews located the missing private aircraft within the narrowed search area. The plane was found near the Reedy Creek Multi-Use Trail at William B. Umstead State Park.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol and North Carolina State Parks are securing the scene and evaluating the site. Additionally, the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and next steps will be determined once the initial assessment is complete.

Umstead State Park is closed to the public. Officials request that everyone avoid the area until further notice.

Commercial operations remain normal at RDU.
