Road Closures Planned for Paving and Construction at RDU

Jun 06, 2019

Travelers Should Arrive Early to Avoid Possible Slowdowns

Repaving and construction projects will lead to temporary road closures at RDU in June and July, as the Airport Authority continues campus improvements as part of its Refresh campaign.

RDU recommends travelers arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to their departing flight.

John Brantley Boulevard lane closures: the two right-hand lanes of inbound John Brantley Boulevard approaching Terminal 1 will be closed from 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 through 3 a.m. on Monday, June 10 for restriping. During this time only one lane of traffic will be available on the far left side, but access to both Terminal 1 curbs will remain open.

Once the newly striped lanes re-open, the left lanes will be closed 24/7 for an estimated five weeks. Two adjacent lanes will remain open along with access to the terminal curbs.

West International Drive closures: crews will also conduct blasting work along West International Drive between Charlie taxiway and North Ramp Drive on weekdays from June 6 through June 20. The blasting is being done to break apart a rock subgrade for the installation of utilities. In the interest of public safety, West International Drive at the Gate 12 driveway and Business Street will be closed at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for approximately 5 minutes during the blasting, which supports the development of RDU’s new apron for storing aircraft overnight.

Project schedules may change based on weather conditions. RDU will continue to keep travelers informed with regular updates. Follow RDU’s Refresh campus improvement campaign, including current project status, at www.rdu.com/refresh.
