Refresh RDU is Underway, Keeping Pace with Customer Growth and Adding Amenities
Connect before you jet to prepare as you travel through RDU
RDU Airport, NC – To keep pace with the region’s rapid growth, Raleigh-Durham International Airport is kicking off campus-wide improvements this week that will refresh and improve the RDU travel experience.
To help navigate the renovations and reduce confusion, the airport is encouraging travelers and local citizens to “Connect Before You Jet” by visiting RDU.com/refresh or following @RDUAirport on Twitter to learn what’s under construction and how best to plan ahead.
“We continue to see passenger growth at RDU. In fact, total numbers are up 10 percent compared to last year, which was our busiest on the books,” said Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Landguth. “These renovations, originally outlined in the Vision 2040 Master Plan, are the first of many projects to move from paper to reality.”
Over the next few months, travelers can expect updates to airport roadways, parking lots and terminals. Next week, crews start a major resurfacing project on John Brantley Boulevard. The first phase will take place just south of Terminal 2. In September, work will begin to resurface ParkRDU Economy 3, causing the temporary closure of some spaces. Work on these projects will continue into 2019, with a moratorium on construction during the holidays.
“Refreshing John Brantley Boulevard will likely mean lane closures that could cause delays for travelers and those picking up passengers,” said Kristie VanAuken, Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs. “Additionally, as we repave ParkRDU Economy 3, there will be fewer spaces available in the immediate future.”
The Airport Authority is encouraging customers to check ParkRDU status before heading to the airport, arrive early and keep an eye out for signage that will help navigate the airport with ease.
“Preparation is key for our customers during these renovations,” continued VanAuken. “And, we’re making that easy for our customers through our Refresh web page, Twitter and ParkRDU online booking, which is currently in beta testing. If travelers connect before they jet, they’ll find up-to-date information and tips that’ll make traveling through RDU a breeze.”
