RDU's Art Program Provides Exhibit and Music During Holidays
RDU Airport, NC – RDU Airport is hosting a national documentary project titled "Indivisible: Stories of American Community," an exhibit featuring the photographs and voices of people throughout the country who are making a difference in their communities. The airport is also sponsoring continuous musical entertainment in its terminals from Thanksgiving though Christmas.
"Indivisible" is a project of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University in partnership with the Center for Creative Photography and The University of Arizona and is funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts. In addition to the reproductions of original photographs, the exhibit features two interactive (touch screen) kiosks containing oral histories about the sites, additional images and information on the project. Visitors will be able to record their community experiences to add to the kiosk. There will be racks of postcard reproductions of the photographs containing 60 different cards, free to the public. The project has a Web site at www.indivisible.org.
The community-based exhibition is installed in the concourse of Terminal A.
The airport's holiday music fare ranges from Renaissance vocals to jazz to bluegrass and will be performed on the main levels of both terminals A and C, though the majority of the performances will be in terminal A. Featured musicians and groups include: Cantabile, vocals from Renaissance to jazz; Dave Spencer, acoustic guitar, violin and mandolin; Barron Tymas, classic and jazz guitar; Saxafrass Saxophone Quartet, seasonal music, rags and classics; Cowboy Jim Gregory, holiday tunes; NCCU String Ensemble; Amy Davis, John Newlin and Carol Jones, folk music; Sweet Potato Pie, bluegrass and country; Tad Dreis, singer, songwriter; The Haromonettes, vocal holiday music in four-part harmony; Sir Walter Chorus, holiday barbershop; and Iajhi Hampden Trio, jazz.
