RDU Recognizes Volunteers During National Volunteer Week
RDU Airport, NC – Contributing an impressive 8,971 hours of their own time in 2005 to help others, Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Volunteer Ambassadors help thousands of passengers each year find their way not only to their gate, but wherever their final destination might lead them.
“RDU's Volunteer Ambassadors are on the front lines of customer service,” said Carmen Watson, RDU's volunteer coordinator. She noted that RDU's 33 volunteers donate an average of 16 hours of service per month.
The goal of RDU's Volunteer Ambassador program is to engage volunteers to provide customer service at the information desks in Terminals A and C and elsewhere throughout the terminals. RDU's Volunteer Ambassadors provide valuable assistance to both passengers and the “meeters and greeters” who accompany their friends and family to the airport.
National Volunteer Week, which this year is from April 23-29, began in 1974 when President Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteerism. Since then, every U.S. President has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week.
RDU recognizes its volunteers annually with a volunteer of the year award and other service recognitions. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can contact Watson at (919) 840-2123 x236.
