RDU Prepares for a Busy Labor Day Weekend

Sep 02, 2004

Passengers reminded to arrive early

RDU Airport, NC – Officials at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are reminding passengers with travel plans this holiday weekend to give themselves plenty of time to check in with their airline and proceed through security checkpoint. Friday will be the busiest travel day as over 30,000 people are expected to pass through the airport. Passengers traveling on Friday and Monday, the two busiest days of the weekend, are urged to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight departs.

Passengers with travel plans to Florida should contact their airline before heading to the airport to determine if Hurricane Frances has affected their flight. As of Thursday morning, no flights at RDU had been canceled as a result of the impending storm. Airline reservation numbers and links to airline web sites can be found at www.rdu.com .

Officials at RDU offer the following tips to help passengers fly right through RDU during this busy holiday weekend:

Obtain your boarding pass before arriving at the airport. Most airlines allow passengers to print boarding passes from their web sites. This will allow you to bypass the ticket counter if you are not checking luggage.
Use airlines' electronic kiosks. Most airlines at RDU feature electronic check-in kiosks at their ticket counters. Simply insert your credit card to receive your boarding pass. Your credit card will not be charged. It is for identification purposes only. Baggage check-in service is also available at most airline kiosks.
Park in the garage located between Terminal's A and C. RDU now offers over 11,000 parking spaces located within walking distance of the terminals. Remote parking is also available in the airport's park and ride lots. Electronic signs will guide motorists to lots with available spaces.
Use RDU's Exit Express. If parking in the garages located between Terminals A and C, remember to take your ticket with you. Pay for parking when you return from your trip at one of the Exit Express pay stations and avoid lines at the exit plaza.
Before proceeding through security checkpoint, remove all metal, such as jewelry, belt buckles and change. Place these items in your carry-on luggage.
