RDU Music Series Kicks Off in Time for Busy Thanksgiving Holiday

Nov 23, 2009

RDU Airport, NC – Raleigh-Durham International Airport's annual holiday music series kicks off tomorrow just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel period. The series begins at 10 a.m. in Terminal 1 with guitarist Bo Lankenau and Friends. Other local artists will perform bluegrass, jazz and holiday favorites on the busiest days of the week.

On Sunday, a holiday tradition returns when a group of tuba players take up residence in the parking garage atrium to play a variety of holiday and traditional tunes.

The music series will continue during the year-end holidays beginning Sunday, Dec. 20.

USO to Hold Fourth Annual Fundraiser
For the fourth year in a row, the USO of North Carolina will hold a fundraiser to support the RDU Center. Last year, the event raised $11,000 for the Center, which assists more than 2,000 military service members and their families each month.

Volunteers will be accepting donations in Terminals 1 and 2 beginning Wednesday, Nov. 25 through Wednesday, Jan. 6.

The USO Center at RDU is located in Terminal 1. This holiday season, however, military service members traveling through Terminal 2 will also have a USO to relax in before their flight departs.

On Friday, a temporary USO opened in the ticketing lobby of Terminal 2. The temporary facility will be open until Jan. 6 and is a gift from Archer Western Contractors, which is the general contractor for RDU's Terminal 2 project.
