RDU Expecting Busy Memorial Day Weekend, Summer Travel Season

May 24, 2006

RDU Airport, NC – Officials at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are gearing up for a busy Memorial Day weekend and a busy summer season. Nearly 175,000 passengers are expected to travel through the airport beginning Wednesday, May 24 through Tuesday, May 30. The busiest travel day will be Friday, May 26 and airport officials are reminding passengers to give themselves plenty of time to park, check-in with their airlines and catch their flights.

Following are some tips for Memorial Day travelers:

Watch the electronic signs as you enter the airport for information on available parking spaces. The parking garage area closest to Terminal C has recently reopened after a construction project, with 650 additional spaces available. If the garage becomes full, motorists will be directed to Park and Ride lots 3 and 4.
Motorists should watch for lane closures as they depart the Terminal C and parking garage areas. The closures are due to construction work for the new Central Energy Plant, which will provide hot and cold water for the new Terminal C when it begins opening in phases in mid-2008.
Use ExitExpress to pay for parking to avoid the lines at the exit plaza. Motorists parking in the garage between the terminals are reminded to keep their parking tickets to pay for parking before they return to their cars. ExitExpress pay stations are located along pedestrian walkways between the terminals and parking garage.
Before leaving for RDU, visit your airline's web site to print out your boarding pass. If you are not checking luggage, you can bypass the ticket counter and go straight to the security checkpoint.
If you do not print your boarding pass before you leave home, use your airline's electronic check-in kiosks. Simply insert your credit card to receive your boarding pass. Your credit card will not be charged. It is for identification purposes only.
