RDU Cab Rates to Rise

WHAT: Taxicab rates to increase for the first time in six years at RDU
WHEN: New rates become effective Thursday, March 15, 2001
HOW: Old initial fare of $1.35 increases to new initial fare of $2.30
Old rate of .25 cents for each additional 1/6 mile goes to .30 cents per 1/6 mile

WHY: Through a series of meetings and negotiations with taxicab owners, operators and drivers, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority agreed to a new rate schedule to make sure taxicab service levels met or exceeded customer demand. The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority operates one of the strictest taxicab licensing, training, testing and inspection programs of any municipality in the state.
