Raleigh-Durham International Airport Announces Plan to Open Terminal 1
RDU Airport, NC – Raleigh-Durham International Airport is planning on opening its modernized Terminal 1 on Sunday, April 13. The Airport Authority had delayed the opening due to unseasonably cold temperatures that impacted the construction of the terminal’s aircraft parking area.
“We are excited about opening Terminal 1,” said Mike Landguth, RDU airport director. “In just two weeks, we will be ready to open the doors and provide our customers a world-class travel experience in a newly renovated and modernized terminal.”
RDU began construction on Terminal 1 in 2012 when it began a major modernization and renovation of the section of the building that opened in 1982. Southwest Airlines and AirTran will operate from the new building, which will feature more natural lighting, three works of art and 11 shops and restaurants.
