Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Nears Construction Phase of Terminal C Project
RDU Airport, NC – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority is moving closer to the construction phase of the Terminal C expansion and redevelopment project. This Thursday, September 29, at 3 p.m. the Authority will hold a pre-bid conference at North Carolina State University 's McKimmon Center. Over 200 contractors from across the country are expected to attend the event. A tour of the construction site will be held at 11 a.m.
At the pre-bid conference, potential subcontractors and vendors will receive an overview of the project and learn more about the bid schedule and project milestones. The conference is also an opportunity for subcontractors to meet and network with the general contractors who have been pre-qualified to bid on the project.
For the construction phase of the project, RDU is using the single prime contracting method. Four general contractors have been pre-qualified to submit bids. The scope of the project opens up opportunities for subcontractors and vendors with areas of expertise being sought by the general contractors.
The construction phase of the project will include a 400,000 square foot building, which will feature expanded airline ticketing, baggage check-in, baggage claim and passenger security checkpoint areas. Construction will also include the 300,000 square foot concourse, which will house airline hold rooms, shops and restaurants, boarding gates and airline operations areas.
The Airport Authority initiated the Terminal C expansion and redevelopment project in 2002 after acquiring the lease on the terminal from American Airlines. When completed, the new terminal will feature an expanded airline ticketing area and security checkpoint, 17 boarding gates to accommodate a variety of aircraft sizes and a new federal inspection facility for international flights.
