Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority to Begin 18-Month Master Planning Program
RDU Airport, N.C. – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority today announced it will launch Vision 2040, an 18-month master planning program, on June 1. Vision 2040 will identify the airport’s short and long-term development projects over the next 25 years.
“Through the master planning process, the Airport Authority will continue our commitment to providing customers a world-class experience while maintaining our role as one of the region’s economic drivers with an $8 billion annual impact,” said Dickie Thompson, chairman of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority board.
The master planning process will assess expected growth in airport activity and in the region, gauge existing facilities’ ability to meet that future demand and identify development solutions.
Public Engagement Key Part of RDU Master Planning Process
The Airport Authority will engage the public throughout the process.
“Public involvement and stakeholder coordination will be critical to ensuring that the selected plan meets users’ needs by providing an efficient and customer-focused airport in a cost-effective manner,” said Thompson.
The Airport Authority will present alternative scenarios for the public to provide input on before the final plan is presented at the last public involvement session.
The first public engagement events will be held on June 29 in Durham and June 30 in Raleigh.
