New Way to Pay for Parking Arrives at RDU

Nov 19, 2003

RDU Airport, NC – Motorists arriving at Raleigh-Durham International Airport this week will discover a new and faster way to pay for parking. This week, the airport will introduce Exit Express, an automated payment program that significantly decreases the amount of time it takes to pay for parking and exit the garage.

“RDU is always looking for ways to employ the latest technology to improve the customer experience,” said Theresa Scialdone, RDU’s director of parking. “Exit Express significantly decreases the amount of time it takes to calculate the parking fee and accept payment.”

Exit Express will be available to drivers who park in RDU’s hourly and daily parking garages located between the airport’s terminals.

To use Exit Express, drivers must remember to take their parking ticket with them into the terminal. They will then pay for parking at an Exit Express pay station before returning to their cars.

At a pay station, customers will insert their parking ticket. The parking fee will appear on the screen, prompting payment by either cash, credit or debit card. After payment is received, Exit Express will validate the parking ticket. At the exit plaza, motorists will simply insert their ticket to exit.

Exit Express accepts the following U.S. currency: $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills. The machines also accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club.

Once the transition to the new program is complete, 20 Exit Express pay stations will be conveniently located between the terminals and the parking garages. To introduce customers to the new program, parking ambassadors will be located at the pay stations to answer questions and demonstrate how Exit Express works.

Exit Express will debut at RDU when the airport’s newest garage opens this week. The garage features nearly 6,200 new parking spaces, bringing to more than 11,000 the total number of spaces within walking distance of the airport’s terminals.

RDU’s park and ride lots 3 and 4 will also remain open. Additional park and ride lots will open during the busy holiday season.

A map of the Exit Express pay station locations, as well as a simulated animation of the automated payment process, is located at www.rdu.com.
