America West Initiates New Service Between RDU and Its Hubs in Phoenix and Las Vegas

May 31, 2002

RDU Airport, NC – America West Airlines (NYSE:AWA) initiated nonstop service today between its Phoenix and Las Vegas hubs and Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Customers going to and from this growing business market will be able to take advantage of the airline's new business-friendly everyday low fares.

America West's new fare structure gives travelers the flexibility of purchasing roundtrip tickets without a Saturday night stay or one-way fares with little or no advance purchase at a very reasonable price. "Those are the things that business travelers in particular have been asking for. And America West is in the unique position to offer these fares," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing.

America West's new service for RDU provides two daily nonstop roundtrip flights from its Phoenix hub and one nonstop roundtrip flight Thursday through Sunday from its Las Vegas hub. America West also provides connecting service to more than 40 destinations throughout the western U.S., Canada and Mexico, including high-tech destinations such as Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and the Silicon Valley.

"We're very excited about this new market. The Research Triangle is a growing business market with demand for access to high-tech destinations on the West Coast. Our morning flight is timed to get business travelers there before noon," added Kirby.

To celebrate the start of this new service, the airline is offering double FlightFund miles for customers traveling between the Triangle region and either Phoenix or Las Vegas through Aug. 31, 2002. FlightFund members also receive 3,000 bonus miles every time they purchase a roundtrip ticket at americawest.com with travel completed by Dec. 31, 2002. Customers who combine the double miles offer with the 3,000 bonus mile offer will earn enough miles for a free domestic roundtrip after completing just two roundtrips.

America West will utilize the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft for these flights. Both aircraft feature 12 first class seats in addition to 112 and 138 main cabin seats, respectively.
