America West Announces New Service for RDU from Its Phoenix and Las Vegas Hubs

RDU Airport, NC – America West Airlines (NYSE:AWA) announced today that it will initiate new service between Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and its hubs in Phoenix and Las Vegas on May 31, 2002. America West will be the only airline providing two daily nonstop roundtrip flights between Raleigh-Durham and Phoenix and the only airline offering nonstop service four days a week between Raleigh-Durham and Las Vegas.

"America West will offer customers connecting service to 40 destinations throughout the western U.S., Canada and Mexico, creating a link between Raleigh-Durham's high-tech Research Triangle Region with many other high-tech destinations such as Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and the Silicon Valley," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing.

America West will also provide new connecting service between Raleigh-Durham and 13 cities in the western U.S. Those cities in California are: Bakersfield, Carlsbad, Monterey, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Stockton. Cities in Arizona include: Flagstaff, Kingman, Prescott and Yuma. Other cities include: Grand Junction, Colo., Farmington, N.M. and Eugene, Ore.

America West initially announced plans to begin service between Phoenix and Raleigh-Durham last fall, but due to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the service was postponed. The airline will utilize both the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft for this new service. The A319 features first class seating for 12 and main cabin seating for 112. The A320 features first class seating for 12 and main cabin seating for 138.
