Vision 2040 - A Glimpse Into the First Public Workshops

Monday, June 29 we will hold our first Vision2040 public meeting in Durham. We will hold an identical one the following day in Raleigh.

As we’ve been discussing, Vision2040 is our Master Plan Study, which will help us chart the airport’s future development.

Over the next 18 months, we’ll take a focused look at the airport’s infrastructure and facilities in comparison to those required to serve future demand. This information will help us define a capital improvement and asset management program that will take us through 2040.

As the board chairman, I am very excited about this process. We have a very strong staff and consultant team that will take the lead, engaging the community throughout the process as it is critical to the study’s development.

So what should you expect from next week’s meetings?

A Preview

Vision2040 is an exciting project for not only RDU but for the entire Triangle.  At the kick off and information session, you will learn what the next 18 months will include and why it’s important to the airport and the region.  You will hear about the process, areas to evaluate throughout the study and an anticipated timeline.

Engage with Us

The community will play a key role in the Vision2040 process.  The Master Plan will be designed to meet users’ needs by providing an efficient airport in a cost-effective manner. It will also meet the community’s needs by maintaining the airport’s role as one of the region’s economic drivers.  We can’t do that without community involvement.

We’ve set up a number of ways to maintain communication with the community over the next 18 months, and we’ll talk about each of them at the kick off. These include:

Information and Answers

At the June 29 and 30 kick offs, we will have information on the process available for you to become involved  so you can get a first-hand look at what is ahead in Vision2040. RDU staff and our planning consultants will be available throughout the evening to answer questions. Comment cards will also be available for additional questions or comments.
