On the Record: Security at RDU

Nov 24, 2015

rdu-RGBIn light of recent world events, airport security has been much-discussed in local and national news.

This is a highly sensitive topic. RDU’s number one priority is to ensure the safety and security of our customers and employees. However, to discuss our procedures publicly would, at the very least, undermine the success of our security program.

However, there are some facts about security that we would like to share with you:

  1. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is the federal agency that oversees airport security. RDU follows a TSA-approved plan that includes multiple levels of security and ensures RDU’s compliance with federal requirements. The TSA routinely reviews the plan and monitors its implementation.
  2. When you travel through RDU and other airports, there are many security measures that are visible inside and outside the terminals. However, there are many other measures in place, both seen and unseen, that are part of RDU’s security program.
  3. RDU remains at the highest levels of security and maintains a strong police presence year-round.
  4. You can assist with security. If you see a suspicious package or activity, alert an airport employee as quickly as possible.

As you travel through RDU this holiday season, please remember that your safety and security are our number one priority. Happy travels.
