Sounds of the Season

Nov 19, 2012

Last week I talked about how Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year at RDU. One of the biggest reasons, aside from the heartfelt greetings and busy concourses, is the music. I love the music.

Today, RDU launched its annual holiday music series with harpist Marsha Marsh. Sitting beneath Triplet in the Terminal 2 central atrium, you could hear the music throughout baggage claim and ticketing. It was great.

Marsh was followed by The Loose Mood Experiment. The group, which was part of the holiday music lineup last year, is fast becoming a favorite among RDU travelers if the applause they received today is any indication.

Why music during the busiest time of the year? We started the holiday music series more than 20 years ago, and every year it has been a hit. Passengers enjoy the background music that eases what can be, for some, a stressful time.

It also gives RDU an opportunity to feature some of the talented musicians in our region, from Loose Mood to Kevin van Sant and the Tim Smith Trio. Not to mention the Christmas Tubas, whose Sunday after Thanksgiving performances in the parking garage atrium have become a tradition at RDU.

This is just a short list of the performances you will see at RDU this weekend, and all performances are held in the public areas of the terminal. I encourage you to check out this week’s schedule and let us know what you thought about RDU’s performances this year.

Happy Holiday Travels.
