RDU Gets Ready for Round Three of Winter Weather
Team RDU is preparing for yet another blast of winter, with the possibility of snow in the forecast overnight. RDU crews will begin working 12-hour shifts today, our winter weather equipment is tuned up and ready to roll and contractors are available to help plow or sweep surfaces.
The airport is stocking up on the anti-icing and deicing materials it uses to keep its roads, sidewalks, runways and taxiways safe during a weather event. An order of 4,400 gallons of liquid deicer and 4,400 pounds of solid deicer was delivered Tuesday to help replenish RDU’s supplies after Winter Storm Izzy. More than 46,300 pounds of materials arrived Thursday and the airport placed a third order this week for $244,770 worth of supplies.
With a growing stockpile of supplies on hand, RDU is prepared to keep travelers safe if the Raleigh-Durham area gets blanketed with snow. As with the last two storms, we recommend guests who are flying through RDU check with their airline before heading to the airport.
