Airport to reopen parking spaces closest to the terminals

RDU Airport, NC – The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority today closed its vehicle inspection checkpoint and began reopening parking spaces within 300 feet of the terminals. The changes are in response to the Department of Homeland Security lowering the national terror threat level to yellow. Early this afternoon, the Authority received authorization from the Transportation Security Administration to cease the random vehicle inspections and open the parking spaces.

The airport will also reopen access to the airport’s terminals from the I-70/Lumley Road entrance.

The airport began the random vehicle inspections nearly two weeks ago. The TSA, the agency responsible for aviation security, requires airports to close parking spaces within 300 feet of the terminals and to conduct random searches of vehicles approaching the terminals only when the Homeland Security terror threat level is at orange or above.
