CNN Lauds Terminal 2 Architecture
Madrid. Beijing. Osaka. Jeddah. Raleigh-Durham. Montevideo. New York. Our own Terminal 2 stands in prestigious international company in a CNN article posted today describing airports around the world where “architecture soars.” We are very honored for the distinction.

Completed in 2011, Terminal 2 is home to the majority of commercial air traffic flying into and out of the Research Triangle Region. Passengers arriving in T2, as we call it, are greeted by soaring ceilings, beautiful wood trusses, loads of natural light and wide open expanses. For many, it’s the first impression and last memory of our region.
Paul Goldberger, a Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic, says in the article that Terminal 2 “is a nice alternative to steel and glass.” The article also says that the terminal is “often overlooked as an example of good airport architecture.”
Terminal 2 was designed by Fentress Architects, which also designed the iconic Denver International Airport and the new international terminal at Los Angeles International Airport, among others. The building features a rolling roof reminiscent of the Piedmont Region, in which we are located.
