American Adds RDU-Tampa Service, As Travelers Celebrate More Flight Additions
American Airlines has stayed busy at RDU in recent months, adding new service as more flyers return to safe air travel. On Thursday, the airline announced its newest route: nonstop service between RDU and Tampa, Fla.
The twice-daily service to Tampa International Airport begins Nov. 2. Tickets go on sale next week through American Airlines. American will rely on Airbus A319 and Embraer ERJ-175 aircraft to fly the route.
“We’re excited to strengthen our network from Raleigh-Durham by adding new service to Tampa and the beaches of Florida’s Gulf Coast this fall,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines Vice President of Network Planning. “Whether they’re taking advantage of new direct flights to TPA, or any of our existing routes from RDU, we look forward to welcoming more Triangle Region customers back to travel with American and further connecting them with our global network.”
The new route marks American’s inaugural service between RDU and Tampa. American becomes RDU’s fifth airline partner to off year-round or seasonal service between the two markets.
The airline — RDU’s second-largest by passengers served — has now added seven new markets since March 2020, including Austin, Boston, Cancun, Destin-Ft. Walton Beach, Nashville and Orlando.
Meanwhile, travelers choosing to fly with Sun Country have a new reason to celebrate. RDU’s newest airline partner has extended its inaugural season through the end of November, offering nonstop service to Minneapolis-St. Paul. Sun Country’s service is the first to be eligible for RDU’s new air service incentive program. Tickets are on sale now through Sun Country.
