AA to L.A.: American Begins Daily Los Angeles Service in April
The air service gifts just keep coming for the Research Triangle Region! American Airlines has just announced non-stop service to Los Angeles; just a day after I shared that Southwest will offer additional service to Denver and St. Louis. The new daily Los Angeles service begins April 2, 2013 and you will be able to purchase tickets and view flight times on Sunday, Dec. 23.
American Airlines will operate the service on its Boeing 737-800 featuring the Boeing Sky Interior and Main Cabin Extra feature, which enhance the passenger on-flight experience.
The flight also means that RDU travelers are directly connected to each of American Airlines five hubs: Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami and New York-JFK, putting literally a world of destinations within just one stop of RDU.

Los Angeles is one of the biggest underserved markets from RDU, so this new flight is great for both our region’s business and leisure travelers alike. About 450 people travel each day between RDU and the greater Los Angeles region, mainly by connecting through other airports across the nation.
This is RDU’s first daily non-stop Los Angeles route, but the second overall. Since 2006, Delta has offered seasonal, several times weekly service between the two cities. And, prior to that, the now defunct-Midway Airlines served Los Angeles for a short time from June 2001 until their closing in September 2001.
We’re very excited about the possibilities that this route brings for travelers. We are also very pleased with the investment that American Airlines is choosing to make in the Research Triangle Region. As we’ve shared before, we are operating in a new aviation environment where airlines are being more cautious than ever about launching new flights. The investment of this flight is a great compliment to both the region and RDU.
Happy Holidays from all of us at RDU.
