Sep 26, 2014

RDU Airport, NC – Teresa Damiano, vice president for communications and community affairs, received the prestigious Watt Huntley Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Raleigh Public Relations Society during a ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.

The award is presented to an individual in the community who has made a lasting and meaningful contribution to the field of public relations over the course of their career. It’s named for the late Watt Huntley, who served as public relations chief at Carolina Power and Light in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Damiano has been with the Airport Authority for the past 27 years and was the Airport Authority’s first public affairs representative. Since joining the Airport Authority, she has created several functions including public affairs, guest services, customer service and the airport’s art program.

In addition, for the majority of her time at RDU, she has been the Airport Authority’s chief airline recruiter, bringing to RDU a diverse mix of air carriers and new destinations. Those include cities such as London, San Francisco, Houston, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.

Prior to joining the Airport Authority, Damiano created the public affairs function for Durham City Schools and she served as a journalist for The Durham Sun newspaper. She is a former board member of the Board of Directors of N.C. Travel and Tourism and a past president of the N.C. Airports Association.
