Local Influences Abound In Terminal 1

Apr 09, 2014

Just a few days out from the opening of Terminal 1 and the building looks ready for passengers. On the concourse, all of the shops are fully stocked and the restaurants are practicing preparing their menus. All that is missing are the passengers.

On Sunday, when those passengers arrive on the concourse for the very first time, they’re going to see many local influences throughout Terminal 1.  In The Shops of RDU, local is a major theme. A few weeks ago, Business Development Manager Ingrid Hairston met up with Kelli Clark from our blog team to discuss the local influences you’re sure to find in Terminal 1.

Watch their conversation here.

The Shops of RDU is featuring two North Carolina-based restaurants in Terminal 1, Raleigh’s own Char-Grill and Charlotte’s Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina. Also, Flight Stop’s two locations feature a wealth of local products, such as Greensboro’s KimBees products and other local selections via partnerships with the Raleigh and Durham’s convention and visitors bureaus.

But beyond this,  there are plenty of local influences in Terminal 1 that may be less obvious. For instance take a look at how The Shops of RDU sources the following items:

  • Breads for Char-Grill come from Raleigh’s Flower’s Bakery
  • Produce for Salsarita’s comes from Unique Foods, also of Raleigh
  • Pulled Pork for ACC American Café items come from Brookwood Farms of Siler City.
  • Pork for other menu items comes from Larry’s Sausage in Fayetteville
  • Seafood for ACC American Café menu items come from the N.C. Outer Banks

Merchants such as Marshall-Rousso and Ruby blue have a partnership with The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham to provide internship opportunities for fashion students. Likewise, the ACC American Café offers internships to ACC students enrolled in culinary arts programs.

When Terminal 1 opens this Sunday, we hope you enjoy all the local options we have to offer.
