Drew Groth: RDU's Employee of the Year

One of my hands-down, favorite parts of working at RDU is getting to work alongside the most talented, skilled and energetic people who work day in and day out here at the airport. Many of them you’ll never see. They work behind the scenes clearing the runways, changing airfield lights, and servicing monitors in the terminal. 

Every once and while, I find a chance to highlight them.

Today, we named our 2013 Employee of the Year, the highest annual award at the Airport Authority. What’s great about this award is that employees are nominated and chosen by their peers.

This year, the award went to a well-deserving employee from the Information Services Division.

Originally from Minnesota, Drew Groth, an IT analyst, brings a calm, positive attitude to the airport. He’s not only well-liked, he’s depended upon both day and night.

One employee explained a weather event where this person helped out this way, “When we were unable to correct the problem I was having, Drew drove on icy roads at 2:00 a.m. to come to the office and help me resolve the issue.”

Another said, “I have always found this person to be one of the most enthusiastic and conscientious employees I have run into in a long time.  He is eager to find solutions to your problem as if even the mundane request is exciting and challenging.  He makes you feel like your request is their top priority.”

And because I’ve been bailed out on more occasions than I can count, I would describe Drew as the epitome of reliable. Not because he always knows the answers, but because of his unwavering commitment to ask the right questions, figure things out and solve problems. He really is an IT rock star.

We’re proud to have Drew as our Employee of the Year at RDU. He’s just one of the great employees that work hard every day to provide you with a world-class experience.
