Good Morning From Dallas

Sep 09, 2013

Good morning! I’m posting today from deep in the heart of Texas, where I’m attending the American Association of Airport Executives’ Third Annual Social Media Summit. This is an annual event that brings together my colleagues from airports across the U.S. and Canada to discuss how we communicate with you.

texasflagThere’s no doubt people are using social media for everything from customer service to getting reliable information. At RDU, we understand that hearing from us and interacting with us via social media is something our customers expect.

Did you know? More than 15,000 people are connected to RDU through our Facebook and Twitter channels alone. And, in the past year, we’ve recorded more than 85,000 views on this blog. And, it doesn’t stop there. One video that we’ve posted to YouTube has garnered more than 20,000 views.

Over the next day and a half, I’ll have the opportunity to learn what other airports are doing via social media. My goal is to bring back new ideas and skills to better communicate with you.

Sessions range from social media lessons learned by San Francisco International Airport after the Asiana flight incident to keeping content fresh and engaging. Dallas Fort-Worth and Atlanta airports will be sharing about reaching customers via mobile device, something I’m looking forward to.  We’ll also hear various social media perspectives and best practices from aviation journalists, airlines and major corporations.

At the end of today’s agenda, I’m looking forward to sharing about the successes we’ve had right here on RDU Cruising Altitude, which incidentally, turns one year old next week.

I would love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve social media at RDU.  If you want to eavesdrop on the conference today and tomorrow, follow via twitter at #DFWSoMe. I look forward to hearing from you.
