10 Quick Tips For A Great Summer Trip

May 23, 2013

I love working at the airport in the summer. There’s a lot of excitement. From family vacations to groups heading out on an adventure, we see lots of smiling faces at the airport this time of year.  If you’re heading out on a summer vacation, check out these 10 quick tips for a great summer trip.

RDU_0812Pack Smart. Each airline has different rules for bag sizes, fees and carry-on requirements. Before packing that 17th pair of flip-flops, check with your carrier for their policies.

Prepare Fido. Traveling with Fido is fun, but it requires planning. While each airline has its own policies, we’ve compiled some common tips to ensure your pet travels well. Check them out.

Don’t Rush. Summer is a busy time at the airport. Arrive for your flight between 90 minutes to two hours before take-off.  Remember to be at the gate 30 minutes before departure since this is when airlines begin boarding.

Park Purposely. Daily, Hourly, Park and Ride. We have a number of parking options available to you. Traveling frequently this summer? Consider joining RDU PASSPORT to fly right through garage parking.

Navigate Confidently. Brush up on Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 before heading to the airport. When you get here, you’ll be able to confidently navigate your way from parking or the curb to your gate. There’s nothing like starting your trip stress free!

Be Savvy.  When it comes to going through security, be savvy.  Put your keys and other pocket items in your carryon bag, wear easy to remove shoes and go ahead and remove your belt and jacket as you approach security. If you’re traveling with small children, check out these additional tips.

Eat Well. We’re proud of the food selection you’ll find after going through security. Keep in mind that almost every menu item in The Shops of RDU restaurants is made-to-order, and you are free to customize your order the way you like it. We’ll also package any item for you to take to the gate or on the plane.

Enjoy Extras. We’ve provided some great amenities for you on the concourse, take advantage of them! Enjoy free Wi-Fi to surf the net or update Facebook. In Terminal 2, plug in with many power outlets located right in the seating areas at your gates.

Meet Happily. If you’re expecting guests this summer, make a plan on where to meet. We suggest The Meeting Place in Terminal 2, adjacent to Starbucks in the Ticketing Lobby. In Terminal 1, Bag Claim is the place to meet.

Ask Abundantly. Have questions when you arrive? Ask away! Pick up any courtesy phone in the terminals and be connected to our Guest Services staff. Or, visit the Information Desks in Bag Claim.

Now, before you ready for take-off, tell me where you’re headed this summer!
