Support Our Troops By Leaving Your Change
Working at the airport, I’m privileged to have access to many areas that the public doesn’t get to visit everyday. One of these locations is the USO of North Carolina Center in Terminal 2. It’s a place that I’m always looking for an excuse to stop in and visit, because the work that they do is so incredibly important.
Like many, several members of my family as well as many close friends have served in the military. Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and elsewhere are places familiar, yet far from home to them. I’ve listened to their stories and hear of the sacrifices they make to serve those of us back home. I’m also always looking for a way to give back.
This holiday season, you can do just that as you travel through RDU. In select stores throughout The Shops of RDU, look for donation boxes for the USO of N.C. Center. Make a purchase in cash, leave your change and support our troops. It’s that simple and the impact is huge.

Located on the third floor of Terminal 2, the USO here at RDU is on track to serve more than 20,000 service members, their families and retirees this year alone. For as state rich with military bases and resources, the USO at RDU may be the first stop on a very long journey from home or a transfer place between assignments.
The USO provides food, assistance and spaces simply for those in the military and their families to rest and relax while on their travels. USO volunteers are on duty 24 hours each day, every single day of the year. They take care of our service members just as if they were family and provide a willing ear to listen when needed.
But the work of the USO at RDU extends far beyond the airport, into the community and onto the various military bases across the state. They work to provide support to families and lift the morale of those who sacrifice so much to serve us and protect our nation. In a huge way, their work lifts spirits and works to bridge the divide of travel to distant countries.
This holiday season, as you’re purchasing a newspaper, soda or gift for a loved ones, take a moment to check for a USO Fundraiser donation box. Consider a donation to help this great organization that serves those who serve all of us.
