RDU Encourages Students to Carpool or Find Alternatives to Airport for Spring Break Trips

Mar 07, 2001

RDU Airport, NC  Students from the four major colleges and universities in the Triangle are being encouraged by officials at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to carpool or consider alternatives to driving and parking at RDU for upcoming Spring Break trips.

"We're expecting thousands of students from N.C. State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. Central and other colleges and universities to be traveling by air during spring breaks which begin Friday, March 9 and run through March 18," said RDU spokesman, Mike Blanton.

"Although we've spent millions to add thousands of new parking spaces in recent years, the demand for parking continues to push the limit of supply during heavy travel periods as a result of double-digit growth in passenger traffic for several years," said Blanton.

Airport officials recommend to students the following alternatives to driving and parking at the airport:

  1. Carpool
  2. Have a friend drop you off and pick you up
  3. Ride Triangle Transit Authority bus
  4. Consider sharing a taxi
