Sun Country to Become RDU’s 11th Airline

May 13, 2021

The Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier Will Fly Nonstop to Minneapolis

Sun Country Airlines will become the 11th carrier to serve Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) when a nonstop flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) arrives Friday evening. With its entry into the Raleigh-Durham region, Sun Country is the latest carrier to invest in RDU’s recovery.

“Raleigh-Durham remains a competitive market despite the pandemic, with airlines launching new routes and adding back nonstop flights that were lost last year,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “Sun Country’s decision to add nonstop service to RDU demonstrates the confidence airlines have in the future of the airport and the Research Triangle region.”

Sun Country is an ultra-low-cost airline and a leader in leisure travel with a reputation for offering friendly service at an affordable price.

“We know that so many people are excited to start traveling again, and we’re happy to be able to offer them the opportunity to travel to the vibrant Research Triangle Region with us,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney. “We’re confident RDU passengers will appreciate our brand of convenient, affordable travel and enjoy onboard amenities such as free streaming in-flight entertainment and reclining seats.”

The MSP flight will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays on a 186-seat 737-800 aircraft. Minneapolis-St. Paul is also served by Delta at RDU.  Video and photographs of a Sun Country flight landing at RDU can be found at www.dropbox.com/sh/qhsdlew8i7leecx/AAAI2q8Ynirdv0INevG6y8Jwa?dl=0
